One of the most asked-about characters from Sesame Street's early years is David, played by Northern Calloway. We all remember David's funny, upbeat nature and his crazy fashion style that earned him the nickname "cat in the hat."

Between 1970 and 1989, Sesame Street's David studied law, flirted with Maria (before her marriage to Luis, of course), and helped run Mr. Hooper's store. Off camera, Northern Calloway was a talented stage actor who starred in Broadway's "Pippen" and the 1972 movie "Together for Days." Calloway passed away in 1989, leaving a void in the Sesame neighborhood.

"I posted the same question a few years ago and there's not too much information about Mr. Calloway. Which is unfortunate given that he was such an important member of the cast for so long. I love listening to him sing "My Name" on the Sesame Street Live album from the 70's.I also love the aforementioned sketch of him drawing shapes with Frank's Square character. One of my favourites as well."
