This unmailed (early?) 1930s linen-surfaced postcard (issued by E.C. Kropp) shows the ensemble of "'The Famous Hollywood Cabaret' Restaurant" in NYC, with Rudy Vallee inset in the corner. The card is in excellent condition except for a small crease on the lower left tip.
Annette Hanshaw
Annette Hanshaw was a popular singer and radio star of the 1920s and early Thirties who had many Jazz overtones in her singing style. She stepped out of her role of a torch singer and improvised and had a great deal of swing that harkened to the Big Band singers of the 1930s.
Paul Whiteman
His name couldn't be more ironic. He couldn't be fatter. He couldn't be whiter. "Mr. Whiteman, the lead singer from Ra-Ho-Wa is on the line....".
Did he once claim to want to "Make a lady of Jazz?"...
Yet he was the Elvis of his generation
and Vaughnn Monroe
'Old Leather Tonsils', as he was affectionately known...
Got his start with the 'MoonMaids'... apparently there's a 'Tell-All' somewhere
"Racing with the Moon" indeed!!!!!
